Coming Out to a New World
Remerging after a year in lockdown with 3D “future fashion” avatars for Pride 2021.
The events of the last year changed the world in ways that forced us all to reflect back and look forward. As we think about coming back out, how do we want to show up?
We asked four Squarespace customers who identify as LGBTQIA+ how they would express their new selves through the medium of 3D-rendered “future fashion.
These abstract interpretations of their inner experiences were developed into a digital lookbook.
Briana King
Briana King (she/her/hers) is a skateboarder and community organizer. She uses skateboarding to create a safe space for people who identify as #LGBTQIA+ to learn how to skate and make friends.
Briana’s Face Filter
In addition to the custom 3D fashion and avatar, we created AR Face Filters that coincided with our customer’s look. Users could try on and share the filters in our Instagram stories. The inspiration behind Briana’s face filter comes from her signature move, the “Fire” kick flip.
Masami Hosono
Masami Hosono (they/them) is a Japanese hair stylist and salon owner based in New York. They offer haircuts that don’t follow gender trends and express who you are instead.
Masami’s Face Filter
In addition to the custom 3D fashion and avatar, we created AR Face Filters that coincided with our customer’s look. The inspiration behind Masami’s face filter comes from her new-found love of surfing and being in the water.
Gossamer
Gossamer Rozen (she/they/them) is an African-American/Filipino fine artist and tattooer who identifies as nonbinary femme and is a transgender person. Their work focuses on heritage and duality.
Gossamer’s Face Filter
In addition to the custom 3D fashion and avatar, we created AR Face Filters that coincided with our customer’s look. The inspiration behind Gossamer’s face filter comes from their tattoos.
Lydia Hudgens
Lydia Hudgens (she/her/hers) is a photographer and model. This past year, she has focused on her boundaries and comfort.
Lydia’s Face Filter
In addition to the custom 3D fashion and avatar, we created AR Face Filters that coincided with our customer’s look. The inspiration behind Lydia’s face filter comes from her love of feeling free and comfortable.
